California State Nonprofit Security Grant Program (CSNSGP)

Funding Structure:

Eligible organizations can submit up to two proposals per nonprofit entity. Each proposal must address a specific site with its own unique physical address. Organizations can request up to $250,000 per location, with a total limit of $500,000 per organization.

Eligibility:

Eligible applicants for the CSNSGP are nonprofit organizations based in California that are described under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 (IRC) and are exempt from tax under Section 501(a) of such code. These organizations must occupy the location for which they are applying for at the time of proposal submission.

Eligible Use of Funds:

The CSNSGP funding can be used for a variety of security-related activities and physical security enhancements. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Security equipment and systems, such as surveillance cameras, access control systems, and alarm systems.

  • Physical barriers and reinforcement, including perimeter fencing, bollards, and door/window hardening.

  • Cybersecurity measures to protect against digital threats.

  • Training programs for staff and members to effectively respond to security incidents.

  • Funding for contracted security is allowed.

Dual Eligibility for NSGP and CSNSGP:

Organizations in California have the opportunity to apply for both the National Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP) and the California State Nonprofit Security Grant Program (CSNSGP) concurrently. This allows eligible nonprofits to potentially receive funding from both programs, enhancing their ability to implement comprehensive security measures.

Application Process and Period of Performance:

For the CSNSGP, applicants are required to go through a detailed application process, which includes the submission of an Investment Justification and a vulnerability assessment. The period of performance was 14 months for the 2023 cycle.
